My mother once had a boot box in which she kept obituaries of friends and relatives; we called it her death box. She also kept programs or cards in the box as well. When I got into genealogy she let me copy all of the obituaries of our relatives which I have put in what I call “genealogy albums.” For example, I’ve made an album about one branch of my family and it contains the obituaries which pertain only to that branch.

It would be a great idea for you to make an album just for your friends where you include their photos and photos of events you attend e.g. Proms and any notices which pertain to your life with friends. Also an album filled with vacation photos or anything you and your spouse does together without photos of children. I would suggest that you put it in alphabetical order. Keep photos of yourself in a “family” album. I have made an album for myself and each of my sisters containing photos and programs from birth to marriage. Then the next album begins with the marriage photos.

I would suggest that you do not put anything e.g. Crushed flowers, into an album since they will eventually destroy any photos on the two pages involved. Also don’t use scotch tape in an album; there are sticky products you can buy specifically for albums so that photos are preserved.

Since you don’t now have the time use shoe boxes to save your photos into and show the dates of the photos lightly in pencil on the back of the photo at the top in small numbers – or keep the photos in the envelope you get your copies in and write the info on the envelope. Also add the names of your friends and the occasion; you’d be surprised but someday you will forget their names if they don’t remain in your daily life.

Someday you will have the time to put them together – it might be 20-30 years – but eventually you’ll get around to it and you’ll be glad that you organized them as you went along.

Laminate a photo of the two of you, made into a bookmark – so it can be a few small pics or just one, glue it to construction paper with hearts, then hole punch the top and put a piece of twine though the hole and tie a knot in it.

Quick Banana Chocolate Chip Bars

1 Medium Ripe Banana, peeled
1 Cup Whole Wheat Flour
¾ Cup Brown Sugar, packed
1 Teaspoon Baking Powder
½ Teaspoon Ground Cinnamon
¼ Teaspoon Salt
1/3 Cup Olive or Vegetable Oil
2 Tablespoons Milk
1 Teaspoon Vanilla Extract
1 Egg
¼ Cup Chopped Nuts (optional)
½ Cup Chocolate Chips (or what feels good)

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Spray small rectangular or 9×9 square baking pan with non-stick spray.

Chop or mash banana. Combine with flour, brown sugar, baking powder, cinnamon, salt, oil, milk, vanilla and egg in large bowl. Stir in nuts and chocolate chips to this mixture OR save them to add as topping, sprinkling on top of mixture after poured into the pan. Bake for 25-30 minutes.

Isabellas (Oatmeal Cookies)

1 cup butter
1/2 cup sugar
1 tsp vanilla
1 1/4 cups flour
1 1/2 cups oats
Dash salt, optional
Powdered Sugar

Cream butter and sugar until light. Mix in vanilla, then flour, oats and salt. Chill thoroughly. Shape into small balls and place 2 inches apart on an ungreased baking sheet. Flatten with a fork, crisscrossing. Bake at 350 degrees for 12-18 minutes (depending on your oven). Sprinkle with Powdered Sugar

I really don’t know of any bad things, since it’s open source. The only complaints I have are that cut and paste could be done a little better; and it should allow shortcuts like Internet Explorer. I really don’t like bookmarks.

On the plus side of things, it allows Java and Javascript.

Firefox IS a browser, published by Mozilla, that has been competing with Internet Explorer for the past couple years. It’s actually a pretty cool browser that has turned out to nab more of the market than I think most people anticipated.

Good features:
Great pop-up and spyware protection. This is also partly due to the fact that the vast majority of viruses and spyware are written FOR Explorer, which most people are running.
Probably the best feature of Firefox is tabbed browsing, which opens up multiple windows within a single window so that your taskbar doesn’t get crowded with all of the webpages you’re navigating between.

But as Firefox gets more popular (they just released an upgrade) I expect this to happen less.

So the people recommending this browser were absolutely correct! I have used it for almost a year now and love it.
